Who is Looking at Your Data This Christmas?

Christmas is a great time to sell your computer on Ebay, through free ads and even a friend.
But have you stopped to consider what data you might have left on the computer for other people to see?
A lot of people have some data that they would rather keep personal and not share with others, letters, passwords, bank details, any other financial records, classified work documents etc.
The worrying part is that people think once they have deleted all their private data or even Formatted the hard drive and installed a fresh Operating System, the files are gone, not so.
With the right data recovery software anyone can retrieve the data that you thought was deleted.
When you delete a file it is marked deleted by the Operating System and the space it occupies is made available to other files. The file remains on the disk until another file is created over it, and even after that, it might be possible to recover data by studying the magnetic fields on the disk platter surface.
So what can you do?
There are many software tool applications that can wipe files from your hard drive so they cannot be retrieved, and one of the most popular is Eraser.
With Eraser you can choose to securely wipe individual files, wipe a partition or individual drives.
What you will notice is that it takes a lot longer to securely delete files, and that is because the process is a lot more thorough, and the wait is definitely worth it if you don’t want anyone to read your deleted data.
Best of all Eraser is free, take a look at the website.
