One big mistake I feel I did when I first started weight training was not warming up before my workout, when I arrived at the Gym I started my training without a thought for my poor body. What a big mistake that was, and it wasn’t until many years later that I started developing joint problems in my shoulder, elbow and knees. Please take my advice and warm up before you train.
If you workout from home one of the best things you can do is use a mini trampoline shown on the left, no I am not kidding, this is the one I use at home when I train. It is not only a great way to warm up your body but a great way to get fitter, they can be bought in most fitness shops and of course over the net. My advice is to always start off slower and as your body starts to warm up pick up the pace, you only need to warm up about 8-10 minutes but it prepares your muscles and joints for the strenuous workout ahead. Another bit of advice I would give is to always do a lighter set before you do your actual set, for example if you are going to do 10 reps * 4 sets of Bicep curls at 25kgs always do one light set of about 10 reps at 10kgs and then do your 4 sets. This is so important for looking after your joints and muscles.
If you go to a gym or Leisure complex then you could do an easy 5 minutes on a bike followed by another 5 minutes on the rowing machine, always start off easy and slowly pick up the pace to build up that sweat. Again after you warm up always to a lighter set before your main set.
Don’t make the mistake I did, remember to Warm up.
Do you have any tips on warming up? I would like to hear from you.
