How to Beef Up Your Routers Security Settings
Did you know that more and more people are using WPA (Wireless Protected Access) to secure their wireless network, instead of the less secure WEP?
This is great news as it can prevent the most arduous of hackers from connecting to your network. However, what you possibly didn’t know, is that many people have not taken steps to secure their Router (Access Point). Have you?
Not securing your router means that a hacker is able to connect to it over the internet, and taking control. Once connected to the router, they can then configure it to their liking, and do whatever they want with your network, including malware infection, identity theft and even stopping you from connecting to your own network.
So how do beef up your router and stop hackers getting in?
The way to do this is to change the default username and password for your router. I previously wrote this article, ‘How Secure is Your Wireless Network?‘ which covers how to do this (see tip number 7), there is also advice on securing your network, which I recommend reading.
Please note: If your routers settings are totally different from the one in the article, then you need to consult your manufacture’s manual. If you don’t have it, then Google the make and model.
If all you need is the default username and password for your router, there is an excellent website that lists many different models, take a look.
