In my article Take That Shortcut I showed you some great keyboard shortcuts which proved very popular, and a few of you have asked me to do some more. So take a look below, learn and use them, because not only will they save you a little time but will also help to prevent RSI (repetitive strain injury).

If you have any time saving shortcuts that you would like to share then please leave a comment.

Quickly Find Any File. No matter which program or application you are in, if you press and hold the Windows + F key it will bring up the windows search tool. Press F3 if you are in Windows Explorer will do the same thing.

Close Your Programs. Quickly close any program or application by pressing Alt + F4

Zoom In And Out Instantly. Most Microsoft applications (Office, Excel, Outlook, etc) allow you to zoom in and out of a document by pressing and holding the Ctrl key and scrolling with the mouse wheel.

Need To Select Everything In a Document? Then press Ctrl + A.

Repeat Yourself. Press F4 in Word and it will repeat your last action

Printscreen. Pressing the PrtScn key (to the right of F12 key) will copy the screen and place it on the clipboard, you can then paste it into a Word, Excel, MS paint, etc. If you want to copy and paste only an open dialog box on the screen and not all of the screen itself then press Alt Gr + PrtScn keys.

Jump Back Home. If you use Internet Explorer or Firefox you can jump to your home page by pressing Alt + Home.

Open a New Window or Tab. Pressing Ctrl + T in Firefox opens a new tab, or pressing Ctrl +N in Internet Explorer opens a new window.

keyboard shortcuts

History Tab. By pressing Ctrl + H in either Firefox or Internet Explorer will bring up the history tab.

Favourites And Bookmarks. Ctrl+D adds the current page to your Favourites/Bookmarks file.

Stop That Page. The ESC key stops downloading a page (IE and Firefox).

Have fun and happy clicking.

One of the best keyboard shortcuts I use is Windows key + D, this will minimise all your applications so you can quickly get to your desktop. Press Windows key + D again and it will bring them back up.

My all time fave shortcut is in Opera. Unlike Ctrl + V which will paste, in Opera, Ctrl + B will paste AND go saving that extra click of buttons or keys. Firefox has it as an add-on as well. (found here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3035 )

    Toby,
I have never tried that Firefox add on, will give it a try.
    Regards and thanks.
